Overview of Problem

According to the Louisville Coalition for the Homeless, there has been a significant increase in the number of unsheltered residents in the metro area during the first few months of 2023. In the week of January 24, 2023, a team of homeless outreach workers identified 581 individuals living on the streets of Louisville without access to shelter. This number is more than double the count from a comparable week in 2022, which recorded only 243 unsheltered individuals. The Coalition emphasized that this surge represents a staggering 139% increase in the number of unsheltered people in Louisville during any given week. The rise in unsheltered residents highlights the urgency of addressing homelessness and providing adequate support and resources to those in need.
